About this deal

But her romantic life fails a little bit: she never has a relationship lasts longer than three weeks.

Of all the characters in the book, I was most intrigued by Hannah, Piper’s sister, and I’m very interested to see how the romance between Hannah and Fox, Brendan’s first mate, develops. When she gets turned on, she doesn’t get wet: “feminine pleasure turned to slickness between her thighs. When her boyfriend of the moment breaks up with her in the middle of a Hollywood party, Piper decides to break into a hotel pool and throw a raging party as revenge, which ends with her in jail. instead of an alaskan pilot, this features a pacific fisherman who also falls in love with a city girl who finds herself in an unfamiliar place. She was courageous, sweet, clever, seductive, adventurous, kind, guileless one moment, mischievous the next.Brendan managed to remain a simp throughout this ENTIRE book, and for the first half of it, he hides his attraction behind a grumpy exterior which Piper is semi oblivious to. Don’t let the colourful contemporary cover fool you: if you stripped out the references to Instagram and smartphones, It Happened One Summer could pass quite easily as one of those awful 80s romance novels where Alpha Male Assholes do their best to Possess a swooning, delicate Female Flower. one day i'll pick this back up and continue it just to see if brendan is a good pussy licker cos you know he likes fish. but almost instantly she's transported to a sleepy port town and the fish out of water transformation begins. Her character growth was minimal, and she reverted to who she was in LA at the first sign of failure.

I understand Piper came from a life of privilege, but to me she was written in an almost childlike way that felt incredibly unrealistic for a person this age (spoilt upbringing aside). Surface level wasn’t enough for her any longer and I loved that she came to that realisation in her own way. The beginning is obviously introduction and there are just some books for me that i love from the first page, so when i started this, i was iffy because i wasn’t feeling that immediate pull.

Some of the choices also made me angry as the central conflict is based on a failure to communicate. Helping her flirt with another guy is pure torture, but maybe if Fox can tackle his inner demons and show Hannah he’s all in, she'll choose him instead?

Then, of course, there is a big misunderstanding and a conveniently timed accident that causes her to miss his boat, so they both think the relationship is over. She wields filth like Da Vinci does a paintbrush, and there’s a lot to be said for an author who can fill such exchanges with all the requisite heat, enthusiastic consent, and yes, even humor, of such a scenario without veering into corny territory. I liked how he was working on making her fall in love with him even when she kept promising him nothing serious. So what if Piper can’t do math, and the idea of sleeping in a shabby apartment with bunk beds gives her hives. Since this is a Tessa Bailey, of course it comes with a public service announcement regarding the steam factor.Brendan, by the way, is described as “notch[ing] his first few inches inside of her wet heat”—so he notched her notch? Sister Heather is now engaged to Jeremy, Nell's former love, while Ethan's wife Janet is seemingly perfect and clearly has her eye on the inheritance.

But I especially liked how they did it together and understood each other in a way that no one else could. Tessa Bailey tells the story of Piper, a wild child who loves the LA lifestyle of attending parties and celebrating life.

As if that's not complicated enough, her mother has decided to hold a kind of competition between the siblings to see who should inherit Tredower once she meets her demise! But this was just a sorry, sad case of disempowered women bitching about their perceived pathetic lives when nothing really that bad was going on. The author of Hook, Line and Sinker delivers another irresistible maritime-inflected romcom as a Hollywood It Girl is forced to relocate to a Washington beach town - where she experiences sparks fly with a surly fisherman. till the room stinks, till the walls sweat, till the police are breaking down the door after the 45th noise complaint.
